Pedro P. Benedicto, Jr., Ph.D.


Dr. Pedro P. Benedicto, Jr. is a man in constant search for knowledge. Already a Doctor in Insurance and Risk Management (PhD), he continues to pursue another degree as a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at the De La Salle University (Manila) where he is now a candidate. Prior to his doctoral quest, he finished his Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering at Mapua Institute of Technology (1977); he was also a recipient of a scholarship to attend an international Fellowship program on ”International Insurance and Risk Management” at the Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA, USA (1989). He also received certification as a Master in Insurance and Risk Management in July 2006; in the same year he was inducted as the Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Directors (FICD) in December (2006) after completing the Program requirements of the Institute (ICD) that advocates Corporate Governance Best Practice. To date, he continues to be an active member of the Society of Fellows of ICD. He started his MBA education at De La Salle University in 1980 and was able to get his MBA degree in 2007 while currently taking up units in Master of Science in Financial Engineering (MSFE) in the same University. Through the years, he has attended various training and conferences conducted in the Philippines and other countries (USA, Europe, and Asia).

He has extensive experience in the insurance industry that he joined in 1982. He gained expertise in the areas of risk management, underwriting and over-all management of an insurance company (with more than 10 years of CEO experience). He is a licensed all-lines non life underwriter by the Insurance Commission.

As an insurance executive, he has been actively involved in industry associations where he has served in various capacities (either as Director and/or President), the latest of which is his role as the Chairman/President of the Philippine Insurer and Reinsurers Association, Inc. (PIRA) in 2011 and 2012 and as the Philippine representative to the Asean Insurance Council (2011-2012).

At present, he continues to give lectures at the insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific (IIAP) where he has been teaching since 1990 and was a part-time faculty at De La Salle University’s Graduate program – Master in Risk and Insurance Management.


Werhner V. Parel, CPA

Vice President - Chief Underwriting Officer

Mr. Parel holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce, Major in Accounting from Colegio de San Juan de Letran, where he graduated with honors. He is a Certified Public Accountant. He is also a fellow in International Risk and Insurance Management of the Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He has completed, with academic distinction the Basic Management Program (BMP), a four-week certificate course at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM). In his more than 20 years in the insurance business, he has accumulated an extensive and a well-rounded experience from top local insurers and broking-buyer sides of insurance (Marsh). He has conducted special lecture courses particularly in the areas of Liability, Miscellaneous Casualty and Engineering Insurance for the Insurance Institute of Asia and the Pacific (IIAP) and the Association of Philippine Adjustment Companies (APAC). Since 2006, he has been a member of the Technical Sub-committee for Casualty Business of the Philippine Insurers and Reinsurers Association (PIRA, Inc.).


Cecilia P. Pallon, CPA

Vice President - Chief Finance Officer

Ms. Pallon is a graduate of Accountancy from Jose Rizal University with academic distinctions. Her exposure in the non-life insurance industry began in 1980 when she joined the Corporate Accounting Team of FGU Insurance Corporation (now BPIMS) and later, Insular General Insurance Co., Inc. She assumed various positions from Accounting Assistant to Chief Accountant, a position she held in Insular General Insurance Co., until its merger with MAPFRE in 2005. She is a Certified Public Accountant.


Roberto C. Angeles

Second Senior Assistant Vice President, Deputy Chief Marketing Officer & SBU Head – Corporate Accounts

Mr. Angeles graduated from the De La Salle University in 1983 with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Major in Marketing Management. He worked for SM Insurance Brokers, Inc., Liberty Insurance Corporation and Benpres Insurance Agency, Inc., prior to joining Republic Surety and Insurance Company, Inc. He has more than 20 years experience in the business and has attended seminars locally and internationally.


Danilo J. Cabero

Senior Assistant Vice President & Head – Reinsurance & Property Underwriting

Mr. Cabero holds a BSC Accounting Degree from the Far Eastern University in 1979. Prior to his joining with RSIC, Danni started his career in the insurance industry in 1980 when he joined the National Reinsurance Corporation of the Philippines (National Re), the sole professional reinsurance company in the Philippines. He held various positions from Reinsurance Clerk to Vice President for Underwriting and Claims-Facultative, the position he held until he retired from the National Re for 28 years. He was responsible for global reinsurance arrangements with top foreign reinsurance markets. He has attended several insurance seminars and attended conferences on general insurance and advance courses on underwriting and reinsurance with the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific, Insurance School (Non-Life) of Japan, Hongkong, Seoul, Korea, Singapore and Munich, Germany.


Ferdinand G. Guillarte

Senior Assistant Vice President & SBU Head – Motor Marketing & Claims

Mr. Guillarte earned his AB Economics degree in San Sebastian College in 1977. Right after graduation he joined Afisco Insurance Corporation as a Fire Analyst until he assumed his position as Assistant Manager serving the Company for 11 years. Later he was transferred to PCI Insurance Brokers, Inc. and the latest was PCCI Insurance Brokerage, Inc. for 21 years as Officer-in-Charge. He attended special courses on Loss Adjustment and earned credits on seminars on Marketing and General Agency Management. He handled various accounts of MERALCO.

Mr. Monzon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree Major in Human Resource Management from De La Salle University, where he graduated with a nomination for Best Thesis.  OT started his career in the insurance industry in 1997 where he joined his father put up an Insurance Brokerage (SJW Insurance Brokers, Inc.).  He held various positions from Executive Assistant to Marketing Manager for Personal and Commercial Lines.  He has also served various Managerial positions for Insurance Brokers’ and an Insurance Company (Hubertus Clausius, Avenues and Philippine Charter Insurance Corp.). He has more than 15 years experience in the business and has attended several insurance seminars and management courses from the Insurance Institute of Asia and The Pacific (IIAP).  At present, he is Assistant Vice President / Head – Strategic Business Unit of Marketing Department handling MERALCO & MERALCO Subsidiaries.


Mary Anne M. Labao

Assistant Vice President & Head - Information and Communications Technology

Ms. Labao earned her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree from AMA Computer University in 2000. She worked for almost 8 years in another general insurance company where she gained knowledge in accounts management, underwriting and handled internal process review and documentation. Prior to joining Republic in 2009, she also worked as a Jr. Systems Analyst at Darwish Bin Ahmed and Sons Group in Abu Dhabi, where she was part of the Planning and Control Division that oversees the overall business operations of the group.


Eudan Eusebio Y. Bantola III, ECE, MBA

Assistant Vice President, Deputy Chief Risk Officer & Head – Analytics, Risk Management and Operations Research

Mr. Bantola graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology and is an Electronics and Communications Engineer. He recently earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from De La Salle University Manila. For four consecutive years, he has served as the Treasurer of the Society of Risk Management Professionals, Inc., an organization dedicated to enhancing the risk knowledge of professionals in the country. In 2014, Mr. Bantola became the grand winner of the first ever international essay writing competition organized by the East Asia Insurance Congress (EAIC), one of the largest associations of insurance companies in the world.
